How long until we own smart mirrors that allow us to virtually try-on clothing at home? These types of mirrors already exist, but the price tag would outweigh the benefits for most of us. However, during COVID-19, a different type of smart mirror has taken off — the fitness mirror. Consumers, stuck at home, have been increasingly purchasing fitness mirrors from companies like Mirror, Tonal, and Tempo for $1,500 - $3,000 (plus paying a $39-49 monthly subscription). These mirrors stream fitness classes live and on-demand via a two-way video feed. They don’t offer virtual clothing try-ons yet, but it seems like a natural feature to add to future product releases. Lululemon, a major athletics clothing retailer, purchased Mirror and Amazon, which patented a mirror that dresses you in virtual clothes, invested in Tonal. You may not have spent thousands on a smart mirror just to virtually try-on clothes at home, but if the smart mirror has a lot of other features, like group fitness classes, we may all be much more likely to get one soon.
